Barack Obama Lays Into Trump For Border Political Stunt: Our Military Deserves Better Than That

Donald Trump‘s approach to the international refugee crisis since he became President has been pretty much what you’d expect from someone who believes Mexicans are rapists and thinks a good way to improve national security is to bar the world’s 1.5 billion Muslims from entering the country.

Essentially, when you put on the “America First” beer goggles and look out into the world, you see millions of hardworking American citizens who humbly want nothing more than to keep their salaries for themselves slowly being rounded on by hordes of refugees with their inconvenient desires for food, basic amenities and not being blown up in a horrific civil war.

When you see the world that way, Trump’s response to the so-called migrant caravan doesn’t seem at all irrational. How else was he supposed to react when he heard that a few thousand refugees were fleeing disaster and heading towards the US to plea for asylum? Who wouldn’t pledge to send thousands of troops to the border to deal with the impending doom that will surely be brought by these poor people who have nothing more than the clothes on their backs?

So, Trump announced recently that he would be responding to the migrants’ arrival on the southern US border by deploying several thousand troops to greet them – and, presumably, keep them out. Reports from the Defense department have varied in terms of how many troops will actually be sent out, with Trump suggesting the number could rise to 15,000.

There has been, of course, outcry on the Left in response to this. The most recent manifestation of that came from former President Barack Obama who savagely laid into Trump for what he called a “political stunt” at the expense of the refugees. Here’s what he said:

“They’re telling you the existential threat to America is a bunch of poor refugees 1,000 miles away. They’re even taking our brave troops away from their families for a political stunt at the border. And the men and women of our military deserve better than that.”

That is a brutal and comprehensive dismantling of the insanity of the response to this incident from the White House. Obama was speaking at a campaign rally for Democratic Sen. Bill Nelson and Democratic gubernatorial candidate Andrew Gillum.

It is clearly a colossal overreaction to send half the American army to deal with the arrival of this relatively small group of migrants, and the suggestion that the throwing of rocks could result in the refugees being “arrested for a long period of time” is a whole new level of crazy.
