Democrat Senator Ted Lieu Believes Mueller Report Can Be Subpoenaed, Made Public Earlier Than Anticipated

Things have been in total turmoil on Capitol Hill for several months now, especially when it comes to investigation of what the White House and senior members of the Trump family have been getting up to recently. Back in November of last year, the Democrats took back control of the House of Representatives in the 2018 midterm elections, and the conflict between a staunchly GOP White House and a Democratic Congressional Majority led by the firebrand Speaker of the House Nancy Pelosi was always going to result in some fireworks, and the way it is playing out is fascinating.

Like many of us onlookers, the Democrats are getting tired of waiting for Special Counsel Robert Mueller to finally release the report on the findings of his investigation. It seems now like a very, very long time ago that the Justice Department found itself forced to commission the former Director of the FBI to set up a probe to look into allegations that the Trump campaign in the presidential election of 2016 colluded with Russian state actors in order to steal the election result and the White House from Democratic candidate Hillary Clinton and then committed obstruction of justice afterwards in a desperate attempt to cover it up.

The clock is ticking, in Washington and the rest of the United States. Democratic Sen. Ben Cardin said recently: “I think the Congress has a really critical constitutional responsibility here. We need to get the Mueller report. We need to know what that investigation showed. So hopefully that will be made available through the attorney general, but we will use every means we need to in order to get access to the report.”

There has been a huge amount of talk lately about the possibility of Trump being impeached by Congress now that the Democrats control all the powerful committees that hold sway over that kind of thing, and one way to work towards that would be for those committees to essentially set up there own investigations into the White House and start firing off subpoenas. It finally looks like that might be happening, thanks to heroes like Rep. Ted Lieu.

Lieu said in an interview on CNN that subpoenas are basically ready to go, therefore issuing a major warning shot to the White House. He said:

“We could try to subpoena the entire report. We could also subpoena witnesses to come in and testify before the Judiciary Committee, such as Robert Mueller or other prosecutors on his team.”

If I were Trump, I would be very worried indeed.
