Department Of Justice Reveals They Have A Star Witness In Investigation, Trump Freaking Out

The investigation conducted by Special Counsel Robert Mueller is reaching its climax, and things are not looking good for President Donald Trump, to say the least. The most recent major blow he was dealt was when his former personal attorney and the former deputy finance chair of the Republican National Congress, Michael Cohen, was handed a three year jail sentence for a whole bunch of financial crimes that directly implicate the President. Even more damning for President Trump and in fact the whole White House and the rest of the Trump family is that Cohen’s entire defense during the lawsuit’s passage through the courts (and even now, that the sentence has been passed) appears to be that all of the crimes he committed were done so on the direct orders of his boss, who is now President of the United States and leader of the free world.

The sentencing of Cohen marks a major step forward for the Mueller investigation. A previously incontrovertibly loyal Trump crony was reduced to shouting in court about how “Trump made him do it”, and even so failed to escape a substantial jail sentence. This is big, it matters. As has been reported, there are four main reasons that this might just be the beginning of the end for the Trump presidency.

Firstly, Cohen was just the beginning. It is immediately clear from a press release that was produced by US Attorney Robert Khuzami that this is just the beginning. He has said publicly that the body that owns the National Enquirer, called the AMI, was instrumental to proving the charges against Cohen. The fact that that company received a non-prosecution agreement suggests that no one is planning to stop at Cohen: there are many more targets to come, and judging from the prosecution tactics up to now, they will only be higher up and more powerful than Cohen.

Also, one of the defining characteristics of the responses from the Trump cronies to these criminal investigations has been to staunchly deny any kind of alleged hush payments. Khuzami explains that those denials just got blown out of the water:

“As a part of the agreement, AMI admitted that it made the $150,000 payment in concert with a candidate’s presidential campaign, and in order to ensure that the woman did not publicize damaging allegations about the candidate before the 2016 presidential election.  AMI further admitted that its principal purpose in making the payment was to suppress the woman’s story so as to prevent it from influencing the election.

“Cohen was reimbursed for the latter payment in monthly installments disguised as payments for legal services performed pursuant to a retainer, when in fact no such retainer existed.

“Cohen made or caused both of these payments in order to influence the 2016 election and did so in coordination with one or more members of the campaign.”

Oh dear. Watch 0ut, Trump.
