Don Lemon’s Monologue Dismantled Trump’s Victory Lap Of America In The Best Way Imaginable

Criticizing Donald Trump is easier than taking candy from a kid. It’s like taking candy from a kid who doesn’t like candy. And is also on the other side of the world. And is dead. Trump says and does so many overtly stupid and monumentally miscalculated things that it has become almost boringly easy to demonstrate why he is quite possibly the worst person ever. Literally.

That potentially makes life very difficult for people like CNN anchor Don Lemon, who basically make a living out of criticizing Trump. How is he supposed to come up with interesting and original ways to point out the painfully obvious reasons why what Trump does is wrong, when anyone with half a brain cell can figure it out for themselves just by watching him for five seconds?

Well, he just delivered an absolute masterclass on how to do it. Last night, over the course of six and a half minutes, Don Lemon calmly and intelligently dismantled everything Trump is doing at the moment with a gentle brutality that staggered even me (I’ve seen and heard a lot of stuff, people). Everything was on the table, from his appalling handling of the crisis surrounding missing journalist Jamal Khashoggi to the surge in border crossings, and from colossal deficit growth to Trump’s incessant claims that he is always “winning“. Nothing was out of Don’s reach.

He starts off with the scandal surrounding Jamal Khashoggi, a Saudi Arabian journalist, virulent government dissident and Washington Post columnist who is alleged to have been murdered by officials working for Saudi Crown Prince Mohammed Bin Salman when he visited the Saudi consulate in Turkey recently.

An international crisis such as this warrants a certain kind of response from a sensible politician. Of course, it drew a completely different reaction from Trump who, as Lemon scathingly points out, opted to retreat to “his happy place” – a campaign rally. It’s easy to see why Trump is so comfortable campaigning that he insists on doing it all the time even when there isn’t a campaign going on: he is surrounded by people who cheer so loudly when they see him that they drown out his unsubstantiated claims, flagrant rhetoric and rambling and incoherent commentary.

Thought that was bad? Oh, well, we’re just 20 seconds into the Don Lemon rant. And I can tell you, it gets a hell of a lot worse. “Back here in the real world, things are a little different,” says Lemon to camera as millions of jaws simultaneously hit the floor across the nation. Lemon goes on to deliver an intellectual lambasting of Trump from every possible angle you can imagine and it is immensely satisying to watch. If you haven’t seen it already, I strongly recommend you take a few minutes out of your day to re-educate yourself about how awful Trump is, because – I’m telling you – you can never do that too much.
