Donald Trump’s Mocking Female Reporter On Kavanaugh Sheds New Light On His True Colors

Did President Donald Trump put on an arrogant display of misogyny, or was he just trying to have a laugh at the expense of a member of the press? The answer probably depends on your point of view.

Either way, the president’s actions at the White House today caused quite a stir.

Trump, while fielding questions from reporters at an event at the White House, called on ABC News’s Cecilia Vega. The president pointed toward Vega, urging her to ask her question.

As she stood to speak, Trump said, “She’s shocked that I picked her.” But Vega responded to Trump. “I’m not, thank you Mr. President.”

But apparently Trump misheard what Vega had said. Instead of hearing her words “I’m not, thank you,” the commander-in-chief apparently heard Vega say, “I’m not thinking.”

Trump decided to respond to that comment rather than the one Vega had actually said. “That’s OK, I know you’re not thinking,” Trump said. “You never do.”

Audible gasps and reporters saying “woah” can be heard. Vega herself asks the president to clarify. “I’m sorry?” she said.

“No, go ahead,” Trump insisted.

Within the same Trump conference, Trump argued that the allegations of sexual assault against his Supreme Court nominee Brett Kavanaugh were unfounded. The president also insisted that everyone has something to hide — except for maybe one person.

“There are bad reports on everybody in here, most of the people sitting down here — except for Mike Pence, by the way,” Trump elaborated. “And if we find one on him, then I’m … that’s going to be it, that’ll be the greatest shock of all time.”

Trump’s mocking of Vega and other reporters appears to run contrary to a campaign against bullying that his wife, first lady Melania Trump, is coordinating, called “Be Best.” That campaign, for instance, urges “healthy living, encouragement, kindness, and respect” in our nation’s hallways.
