Elizabeth Warren On Trump In 2020: He Might Not Even Be President By Then

The race for the Democratic nomination for President of the United States and leader of the free world is hotting up. The presidential election of 2020 might seem a long way away at the moment, but many senior Democrats have been planning for this for such a long time that their campaigns are in full swing already. One of the very first Democrats to announce that they would be putting themselves forward to challenge President Donald Trump in his attempt to win a second term in the White House next year was Sen. Elizabeth Warren, who formally set into motion her candidacy for the Democratic nomination back on New Year’s Eve of last year.

Recently, she began camapigning in earnest, and some of the quite attention grabbing comments she made in public set the tone for how she is going to carry out her campaign over the next eighteen months or so. When it comes to President Trump and his prospects for 2020, in the light of everything that is going on right now around the Trump family and White House, Warren made a strong speech on the campaign trail and she did not mince her words:

“By the time we get to 2020, Donald Trump may not even be President,” she said. “In fact, he may not even be a free person. Well come on. How many investigations are there now? It’s no longer just the Mueller investigation. They’re everywhere and these are serious investigations, so we’ll see what happens.

“It’s a dangerous moment for the country. What happens in 2020 is going to determine the direction of our nation, the direction of our people. Every day, there’s a racist tweet, a hateful tweet, something really dark and ugly. And what are we, as candidates, as activists, the press, going to do about it? Are we going to let him use those to divide us?

“Here’s how I see it: Donald Trump is not the only problem we’ve got. Yeah. Donald Trump is the symptom of a badly broken system. So, our job as we start rolling into the next election is not just to respond on a daily basis. It’s to talk about what we understand is broken in this country, talk about what needs to be done to change it and talk about how we’re going to do that, because that is not only how we win, it’s how we make the change we need to make.”

This is the leadership we need. We have been waiting for someone to stand up to Trump with this kind of strength for a long, long time.
