Former White House Official Issues A Major Warning To Trump About Mueller: This Is The Absolute Line

The investigation by Special Counsel Robert Mueller into alleged collusion between the 2016 Presidential campaign of Donald Trump and Russian state actors as well as subsequent obstruction of justice feels like it has been going on for an age at this point. Which I guess is a good thing in a way, since it means it has been hanging over the head of President Donald Trump throughout the entire first half of his presidency.

Now, though, things might be coming to a head. Mueller has been dropping hint after hint, getting bigger and bigger, that he is planning to reveal his findings in full very soon, which we are certain will be a momentous moment for the future of American politics. Because of that, Trump (being Trump) is trying to find a way to escape the limelight and dodge actually suffering the repercussions of his actions. One extremely controversial and very dodgy course of action that has been bandied about as of late is that of the President simply firing the Special Counsel, which would most likely precipitate an enormous constitutional crisis, if nothing else. And now, thanks to a recent development, Trump has another very good reason to avoid doing that at all costs. The Washington Examiner reports:

Former Attorney General Eric Holder called a possible dismissal of special counsel Robert Mueller by President Trump an “absolute red line” that cannot be crossed.

“ABSOLUTE RED LINE: the firing of Bob Mueller or crippling the special counsel’s office. If removed or meaningfully tampered with, there must be mass, popular, peaceful support of both. The American people must be seen and heard – they will ultimately be determinative,” Holder tweeted.

The tweet comes a day after the Trump campaign sought to discredit Mueller’s investigation by sending a letter to Congress alleging members of the transition team’s Fourth Amendment rights against illegal search and seizure had been violated. The special counsel’s office obtained tens of thousands of emails from the Trump transition team through the General Services Administration. The Trump campaign argued the government is not the rightful owner of the emails, instead the holders of the accounts are the owners.

The special counsel’s office argued it went through the proper channels to obtain the emails, likely asking the GSA to turn over the documents. Mueller’s investigation has been put under the microscope by Republicans in the last few days. The Department of Justice called in reporters to view text messages between two FBI agents showing anti-Trump bias, one of whom was fired from the Mueller investigation in July after the text messages were discovered. Republicans have argued this is proof the investigation is partisan and led by Democrats. Mueller is a registered Republican who previously served as FBI director after being appointed by President George W. Bush.

This is massive. This matters a great deal. When a big name like Eric Holder feels the need to weigh in on something like this using such strong terms, you know that something big is just around the corner. Let’s just hope it swings away from Trump’s idiocy and towards basic logic and some actual democracy.
