Here’s How Trump’s Environmental Policies Are Contaminating You Water Supply

President Donald Trump, being the textbook capitalist that he is, does not have any time for taking environmental issues seriously. He has previously said that he thinks climate change is a “Chinese hoax”, and he has showed no willingness to accept the realities of science and address them. He has actively sought to undermine the efforts of the EPA to protect the environment, and after two and a bit years in office, the results of that are starting to become clear. Professional analysis of the state our country is in thanks to the things that the current administration has doen makes for grim reading:

Toxic chemicals found in nonstick cooking pans and other household items have contaminated more than 600 water sources across at least 43 states, according to a new report, with Michigan by far the most impacted. The findings underscore the wider water crisis facing the United States and are likely to increase pressure on the Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) to enact stricter limits on per- and polyfluoroalkyl substances (PFAS), toxic chemicals that can increase the risk of cancer and other severe health problems. New analysis published Monday by the Environmental Working Group (EWG) and Northeastern University finds that 610 water sources across the country contain PFAS.

The water systems include drinking water sources that serve upwards of 19 million people, along with military and industrial sites, dumps, and airports. PFAS itself is found in everything from firefighting foam to rain jackets. The version released Monday reflects an updated map — the last version was released in July 2018 and found 172 contaminated sites in 40 states. And it is likely that the new report still doesn’t account for many contaminated sites around the country. “We believe the locations shown on our map may be only the tip of a toxic iceberg,” said Bill Walker, EWG vice president and editor in chief, in an email to ThinkProgress.

We have reached the point where the person who holds the office of President of the United States and leader of the free world is so staggeringly incompetent that he cannot even successfully keep our water supply drinkable. He is turning the United States into a third world country, little by little, and all the while, instead of mitigating the negative effects of his policies or tackling some of the problems he is creating, he spends most of his time shouting at journalists who report on his failures. The sooner he is kicked out once and for all, the better.
