Here’s The Guy You’ve Never Heard Of Who Could Lead The Democrats To Victory In 2020

The list of people who could run for the Democratic nomination for President in the 2020 election season is already enormous, and seems to grow by the day. Some, like Elizabeth Warren and Kamala Harris, have already launched their election campaigns and are throwing themselves into it like there is no tomorrow (which there genuinely might not be if things continue the way they are, what with the current President, the longest government shutdown in history, the insane Border Wall and ever rising social and political tensions).

There are, of course, various other party grandees who might well run for the nomination next year. Names that have been tossed around frequently include Joe Biden, Beto O’Rourke, Stacey Abrams and even Michelle Obama. This is absolutely a good thing – the Democratic party, and indeed the political Left as a whole, needs to bring absolutely everything it has got to the game in 2020 so that we can finally get this horrendous President out of office.

However, as is the nature of the world of politics, nothing is predictable. Who could possibly have predicted back in January of 2015 that billionaire real estate mogul and reality TV star Donald Trump would win a golden ticket to the White House in the 2016 Presidential election season? We have no way of being sure what will happen, so we cannot take anything for granted.

That’s why I am so excited by even outsider contenders: people like Pete Buttigieg. At just thirty six years old, he would be one of the youngest candidates for President ever. In fact, he is only just above the minimum required age threshold to even apply to be a candidate. However, he has been a Mayor since he was 29 and, crucially, he is now weighing up a potential run for the White House next year.

If Buttigieg does manage to win the nomination, he would have made history already by becoming the first ever openly gay Democratic candidate for President of the United States. Despite the fact that his name is nowhere near as well known as those of many of his rivals (as well as the fact that the money in his campaign chest is measly compared to that of the campaigning machines run by so many of those big Democratic names) he actually seems to feel pretty good about his chances.

“I think most people are thinking: ‘Why not?’ They think all the rules have been broken, that anybody can run,” said Buttigieg, who has said he’ll announce his decision on whether to run for president soon. “I think some of the rules have been broken, but there’s only one way to find out which ones.”

Well, good luck from us at Blue Side Nation, Pete!
