James Comey’s Prediction Is The Worst News Trump Could Have Asked For

It feels like it has been hundreds of years since we’ve been waiting for these midterms, so it feels unreal that they’re finally here. All that endless commentary and anxiety and fear and anticipation is finally coming to a head. And, to be frank, it isn’t looking good for Trump.

That fact is not lost on one of the most high-profile victims of Trump’s belligerence in office – James Comey, the FBI Director who was fired by Trump last year. This morning, he wrote an op-ed in the New York Times in which he didn’t hold back with his mind-blowing predictions of what will happen today.

Comey said that Americans have been in something of a political slumber since Trump was elected. That rings true to a certain extent. Certainly for us on the Left, things have felt a little hopeless since he took office. However, Comey reckons that will all end today, as Americans are now “stirring” from their slumber and ready to make their voices heard once again.

“I feel the giant stirring. The awakening is slow, but it is underway. Torches and death in Charlottesville. Children in cages at the border. The lying, misogyny, racism and attacks on the rule of law from our president.”

This is some of the most forthright crticism of President Trump that we have ever heard from Comey. Clearly, like many of us, his patience is wearing thin. He continues:

“These things poke the giant. It takes time, but the American people are stirring. They always do. And when they awaken, these fevers break very quickly.”

We can only hope that this is true, and Comey has been in politics for a very long time, so he knows what he is talking about. There is undeniably a sense of political unease across the nation right now, so we can only hope and pray that people will allow that to shine through on the ballot today.

In his inspiring article, Comey goes on to urge us all “not to become discouraged or complacent” but to make use of the wonderful opportunity we have in today’s elections – much like Joe Scarborough said earlier today – by going out and “voting those values” that mean so much to us as a people and as a country. He adds:

“Every American should be speaking about our nation’s values. Every American should be voting those values, which are far more important than even the most passionate policy differences. The history of America consoles us, but also calls us to action.”
