Mueller Shows Frustration In Blistering Public Attack On Manafort, Openly Furious About “Bold And Brazen Law Violations”

The investigation by Special Counsel Robert Mueller into President Donald Trump, his Organization, his White House, his administration, his close circle and his White House seems now like it has been going on for many lifetimes. It certainly feels like much longer than two years ago at this point that the Justice Department (specifically, Deputy Attorney General Rod Rosenstein) found itself forced to commission the former Director of the FBI to set up a probe to investigate the claims that the campaign to elect then Republican candidate Donald Trump as President of the United States and leader of the free world during the 2016 presidential election colluded with Russian state actors in order to steal the result of the election and the White House from rival Democratic candidate Hillary Clinton, and then committed obstruction of justice afterwards in a desperate attempt to cover it up.

The mood on Capitol Hill and indeed across the United States over recent months has been one of increasing frustration towards Mueller. Though he is undoubtedly doing necessary and valuable work, he does seem to be taking his time with it, and all the while Donald Trump remains in the Oval Office. However, recent statements suggest that Mueller is himself getting quite fed up too.

The inquiry has not been without success, of course. A whole load of very big GOP and Trump names have already been taken down by the probe, including but not limited to: former National Security Adviser and close Trump aide Michael Flynn, former senior Trump attorney Michael Cohen, former Chair of the 2016 Trump election campaign Paul Manafort, and close Trump adviser and White House associate Roger Stone.

However, it has been around Manafort that most of the recent buzz has taken place, since he was chair of the campaign and therefore represents the focal point of the investigation as a whole. Mueller has spent two years looking into his past and judging by his recent public statements, he is absolutely fuming about what he has found:

“Based on his relevant sentencing conduct, Manafort presents many aggravating sentencing factors and no warranted mitigating factors. For over a decade, Manafort repeatedly and brazenly violated the law. His crimes continued up through the time he was first indicted in October 2017 and remarkably went unabated even after indictment. Upon release from jail, Manafort presents a grave risk of recidivism.”

Wow. That is not a man who is going to show mercy any time soon.
