Rick Scott Stabs Trump In The Back On Obamacare: It’s Not A Bad System, We’re Just Trying To Improve It

The entire worldview of President Donald Trump is visible through his attitude to healthcare. The existing federal healthcare provision scheme in the United States is Obamacare, and Trump hates it and wants to overhaul it, simply because it was enacted by his obviously superior predecessor, former President Barack Obama. Trump also hates the idea of any kind of socialized medicine because he is, at the end of the day, a capitalist. He has huge amounts of money that he did not earn and he does not support giving the most vulnerable people the cash they need to survive, even when it comes to the most basic of services such as healthcare. So, on this issue, he has spent the past two and a bit years in which he has held the office of President of the United States and leader of the free world doing everything in his power to get rid of Obamacare and replace it with something much more right wing.

The problem with that, of course, is that despite claiming to be the best deal maker the world has ever seen, President Trump is actually extremely bad at his job, to the point that he has completely failed to repeal Obamacare. So, in a desperate effort to make it seem like he had a plan and knew what he was doing, Trump appointed a team of GOP Senators, led by Sen. Rick Scott of Florida, to come up with some kind of alternative to Obamacare that could actually work. The only problem with that is that Sen. Scott has recently stated in multiple interviews that he fully supports Obamacare and wishes to make it work.

In an interview with Steve Inskeep on NPR, this happened:

Inskeep: Let’s talk about what the Republican approach really is here. From talking with other Senate Republicans, we get the impression the idea is to really stop trying to repeal and replace Obamacare and just find some narrower improvements in the existing system — is that a fair description?

Scott: Well that’s what I’m doing.

Similarly, on the CBS show Face the Nation, Sen. Scott made the following pro-Obamacare statement challenging the White House to explain how any alternative proposal could possibly work:

“I look forward to seeing what the president’s going to put out.”

This is a quite significant disaster for President Trump. One of his key policies has been shot down by the man he put in charge of it.
