Tape Of Matthew Whitaker Released, Says He “Doesn’t want to live in a country where Trump, his family & people associated with him have their finances investigated”

Ever since former Attorney General Jeff Sessions made the extremely brave decision to recuse himself from the inquiry by Special Counsel Robert Mueller, President Donald Trump was clearly desperate to fire him. The former Director of the FBI was commissioned by the Justice Department to investigate claims that the campaign to elect then Republican candidate Donald Trump to the White House during the 2016 presidential election colluded with Russian state actors and then committed obstruction of justice afterwards in a desperate attempt to cover it up.

Sessions had been one of the earliest supporters of the controversial figure who would eventually become President of the United States and leader of the free world, so it is not surprising that President Trump would see this self preserving mood as something of a betrayal and respond by seething at him publicly (usually on Twitter, of course) and being quite open about his desperation to fire him. That moment finally came in November of last year, just after the midterm elections, and Sessions was swiftly sent packing.

The logical choice for his replacement would have been Deputy Attorney General Rod Rosenstein. However, Trump being Trump, his top priority for appointing people to powerful positions is forwarding his own interests, and since Rosenstein has in the past expressed some quite basic sentiments about believing that the Mueller probe might be a little necessary (and would therefore be unwilling to be Trump’s anti-Mueller warrior) he was passed over.

Instead, Trump opted to promote former Sessions Chief of Staff Matt Whitaker to the position of Acting Attorney General. There are a million reasons why this was obviously a terrible thing to do, not least the extremely questionable aspects of Whitaker’s financial past in which he has been accused on numerous occasions of being part of various large-scale financial scam schemes. Nonetheless, Whitaker was promoted to one of the most powerful positions in the American government.

Now, though, a tape has emerged which threatens to throw a spanner into the works. Scott Dworkin of the Democratic Coalition has unearthed a recording of Whitaker saying that he “doesn’t want to live in a country” where “Trump, his family and people associated with him” have their finances investigated, which raises red flags left right and center.

This is extremely serious because it pertains directly to the integrity of our democracy. You can listen to the leaked recording below.
