The Guy Who Broke Watergate Predicts Trump-Russia Collusion, Mueller Draft Report Spells The End For Trump

The news about the investigation by Special Counsel Robert Mueller seems to get more frequent and more intense with every day that passes. The probe, commissioned by the Justice Department, is looking into claims that the Trump campaign in the 2016 Presidential election colluded with Russian state actors in order to steal the election result and unfairly (and probably illegally) win the White House for President Donald Trump, and subsequently committed obstruction of justice in an attempt to cover it up.

Big pro-Trump names like Paul Manafort, Michael Cohen, Michael Flynn and Roger Stone have already been taken down by Mueller, who is also a former Director of the FBI. Leaks emerging from the Mueller camp have suggested that this could be an extremely big problem for the White House, especially since it appears that the Special Counsel is preparing to release his findings in full very soon indeed.

At this point, what will actually happen after the Mueller report is finally published is anyone’s guess. But some people have been coming out of the shadows to deliver their damning verdicts, and when they are as experienced and knowledgeable as this one, it is a good idea to listen to what they have to say. Carl Bernstein is the veteran investigative journalist who broke and reported on the Watergate story, so he knows a thing or two about this kind of scandal. And what he just said on live TV will not make Trump’s day any better.

Speaking on the Reliable Sources programme on CNN, Bernstein hinted that he might have some inside knowledge of the current positioning of the Mueller inquiry, and even where it is going next. “You teed up the point that the Washington Post and Times are now making,” he said.

“Bingo. You said the obstruction is not separate from the collusion question,” replied host Brian Stelter. “These investigations are linked. That’s exactly what these newspapers are signaling this weekend.”

“First of all, the New York Times and the Washington Post were more advanced on this story than I was,” said Bernstein. “But I did know something. Part of what I know comes from lawyers of some of the other defendants in this matter who have appeared before Mueller, including members of the joint defense team which collaborates with the White House, and those lawyers believe the president has been lying at every turn about his relationship with Russia,” Bernstein said. “Look, let us look at all of the lies, follow the money, follow the lies. They are all mostly and most vehemently about Russia. Whether we are talking about [Michael] Flynn, Trump, his son, [Jared] Kushner, back to lying about questions having to do with Russia, about what happened at the Trump Tower meeting. The president of the United States drafts a totally false statement about what happened at that meeting that his son was at.”

“Look, Trump keeps going back to the idea we need better relations with Russia. Could be. He could well be right,” Bernstein continued. “But from a point of view of strength and what everybody can see is that he has not acted with Russia from the United States having a strength advantage with Russia. Rather, he has done what appears to be Putin’s goals. He has helped Putin destabilize the United States and interfere in the election, no matter whether it was purposeful or not, and that is part of what the draft of Mueller’s report, I’m told, is to be about.”

Wow. If that is what the Watergate veteran thinks, then things are not looking up for the White House. You can watch the clip in full below:
