The Late George H. W. Bush’s Book Warned Us About Trump’s Presidency: Not Excited About Him Being A Leader

The late President George H. W. Bush has been mourned by many well known figures in recent days and he is clearly much missed.

One of the many aspects of his long enduring legacy is the book he wrote along with his son, former President George W. Bush. The book, which is called The Last Republicans, apparently contains a very stark and very forthright attack from the late President towards the current one.

The book, as you might have guessed from the title, suggests that the two Bush Presidents are, in fact, the end of Republicanism. The book laments the far right takeover of the Republican party in recent months and years, especially by the Trump family, which does not look set to subside any time soon.

“I’m worried that I will be the last Republican president,” the younger Bush told author and historian Mark K. Updegrove.

As a result, the late President Bush staunchly did not mince his words about Trump, much to the delight of readers. Here is the quote from the book, as taken from the words of President George H. W. Bush:

“I don’t like him,” he said. “I don’t know much about him, but I know he’s a blowhard. And I’m not too excited about him being a leader.”

Wow. That is quite something, coming from that man. The elder Bush apparently went on to add that Trump seemed to be driven by “a certain ego”.

The younger President Bush also publicly lamented the ideology embodied by the Republican party under the leadership of President Donald Trump. He said:

“Wow, this guy doesn’t know what it means to be president… [he should not] exploit the anger, incite it [but rather] come up with ideas to deal with it.”

I couldn’t have put it better myself. And I truly surprise myself that I am praising a former Republican President that much.

Of course, the White House has responded in its usual fashion to the Bushes’ criticism. Press Secretary Sarah Huckabee Sanders said in a statement:

“The American people voted to elect an outsider who is capable of implementing real, positive, and needed change – instead of a lifelong politician beholden to special interests. If they were interested in continuing decades of costly mistakes, another establishment politician more concerned with putting politics over people would have won.”

Whatever. The American people know the truth about our current President, which is why he almost certainly will not get a second term in 2020. Oh, and way more people voted for Hillary Clinton than Donald Trump in 2016, by the way. Not that pesky little facts like that should get in the way of your unrelenting rhetoric, of course.
