The SEC Is Now Investigating Jared Kushner’s Companies For This Incredibly Shady Reason

It’s been a big news day for Jared Kushner. First, we learned an Israeli financial group gave Kushner’s real estate company a $30 million investment for 10 apartment buildings near Baltimore. These are the same apartment buildings the New York Times reported on for the poor living conditions and aggressive collection tactics the real estate group took on former tenants.

On top of that, Time reports federal agencies are looking into Kushner’s real estate company for the EB-5 program. This program rewards wealthy foreigners who invest at least $500,000 in American projects with green cards if the investment creates at least 10 new jobs per each investor. The Security Exchange Commission issued a subpoena in May to the Kushner Companies for further insight into how the company uses the program.

Now it’s important to note neither the SEC nor other federal agencies have found any wrongdoing and the Kushner Companies have supplied all information requested in connection with the program.

On the surface, programs like the EB-5 seem to invest money into American business to increase employment numbers. And on the face of it, this seems like a smart way to trigger economic growth. However, when you consider who’s businesses these proposals could profit, it paints quite a different picture.

Take the $30 million investment the real estate group received for the Maryland apartments. While Kushner doesn’t lead the real estate company that received it, he’s still a beneficiary, meaning any foreign investments into real estate dealings the company does, he stands to benefit. Matthew T. Sanderson is a lawyer who has a specialty in government ethics. He told the New York Times concerning Kushner, “I think it’s reasonable for people to ask whether his business interests are somehow affecting his judgment.”

So the question becomes is Kushner doing these programs for the right reasons?
