This Right Wing Group Was Drawing Up Secret Plans To Assassinate Hillary Clinton

Ever since President Donald Trump took up his high office of President of the United States and leader of the free world, hate crimes and the use of violence and harassment techniques against members of marginalized communities has increased significantly, as we have reported on before here at Blue Side Nation. This is not a huge surprise to anyone, since Trump is a right wing populist who enjoys stoking up his base support by using openly inflammatory violence and inciting hatred against the most vulnerable people within our society.

This has led inevitably to a stark polarization within our society. Trump has dragged the entire Republican party further and further towards the extreme section of the right wing, and in response, Democrats have felt it necessary to try to move our political debate as far as possible to the left, meaning that any sensible middle ground has been totally abandoned and compromise and nuance within our political discourse seem to be getting further and further out of reach. We have seen this manifest itself on the far right through violence and terrorist attacks, which are more frequent and more politically motivated than ever before. Reports of this recent attempted attack will chill Americans to their core:

The leader of the United Constitutional Patriots (UCP), a militia group that filmed itself detaining asylum seekers near the U.S.-Mexico border last week, embraced the same rhetoric used by other far-right extremists, including allegedly saying his group was plotting to assassinate Hillary Clinton and George Soros, as well as making a reference to the sovereign citizen movement. Larry Mitchell Hopkins was arrested by federal agents on Saturday after he was charged with being a felon in possession of firearms and ammunition. Hopkins’ group emerged into the limelight last week after footage emerged showing UCP members apprehending hundreds of migrant families at the border, all while heavily armed and despite having no authority to do so.

According to the criminal complaint, the UCP had previous run-ins with the law — including one 2017 incident after the FBI received a tip that the group was engaged in “militia extremist activity” in Flora Vista, New Mexico. Before the tip was received, Hopkins allegedly said the group was “training to assassinate George Soros, Hillary Clinton and Barack Obama.” He claimed it was because the three prominent Democrats supported Antifa, according to the complaint.

This is Trump’s America. This is what happens when someone as incendiary as him sits in the Oval Office.
