Trump Denies Evidence Of Putin Tampering With Elections. Then The CIA Uncovered The Truth

File this under holy crap. Per The Washington Post:

“When Director of National Intelligence James R. Clapper Jr., CIA Director John Brennan, and FBI Director James B. Comey all went to see Donald Trump during the presidential transition, they told him they had ‘captured Russian president Vladimir Putin’s specific instructions on the operation’ to hack the 2016 presidential election.”

Some interesting insights into this report include, “The intel bosses were worried that Trump would explode when faced with this news. However, he remained calm.” According to Clapper, he was “affable, complimentary, and courteous.”

Meanwhile, members of his inner circle urged him to announce publicly these findings. The report states:

“Holding impromptu interventions in Trump’s 26th-floor corner office at Trump Tower, advisers including Trump’s son-in-law, Jared Kushner, and designated chief of staff, Reince Priebus, prodded the president-elect to accept the findings of the nation’s spy chiefs.

They sought to convince Trump he could affirm the validity of the intelligence without diminishing his electoral win. More important, they said that doing so was the only way to put the matter behind him politically and free him to pursue his goal of closer ties with Putin.”

This is where things become even more interesting. The more those in his inner circle pleaded with Trump, the angrier he became. According to the report, he, “railed that intelligence couldn’t be trusted and scoffed at the suggestion that his candidacy has been propelled by forces other than his own skills.”

The report paints a disturbing picture, to say the least. It could imply Trump is driven so much by ego he can’t handle the truth—which calls into question his judgment on every decision.

Moreover, it also shows a deep disconnect between Trump and the intelligence community. These are experts who work hard to protect our country, and if our own president cannot trust them on the basis it could “make it him look bad” then what does that say about him?

The report clearly shows members of his administration wanted to get in front of this revelation and by doing so, it would have presented a president of transparency and legitimacy. Instead, we have to consider the opposite, given Trump’s refusal to see the truth.
