Trump Is Slashing Anti-Terrorism Units Who Are Fighting White Supremacy

It is a well known fact that President Donald Trump is extremely strong in his rhetoric when he talks about sensitive political issues such as immigration. He was, after all, elected to the high office of President of the United States and leader of the free world on a thoroughly populist platform, by whipping up emotion among the grassroots supporters and turning that into fury directed at the left wing establishment. He went on the campaign trail shouting about how Mexicans are rapists and Muslims are responsible for Islamist extremism and then he got elected and now works in the Oval Office.

Since he became President two and a bit years ago, Trump has not calmed down the rhetoric. In fact, he has dialled it up quite a lot. That is why, as recent data shows levels of hate crime have increased dramatically as a direct result of the social division he is sewing and the way he alienates and villanizes minority groups for society’s ills. It is textbook nationalism. Now, reports are revealing that Trump is also applying capitalism to this by cutting vital funds from Homeland Security teams who are on the front line against domestic terrorism, white supremacism and neo Nazism.

The Department of Homeland Security has disbanded a group of intelligence analysts who focused on domestic terrorism, The Daily Beast has learned. Numerous current and former DHS officials say they find the development concerning, as the threat of homegrown terrorism—including white supremacist terrorism—is growing. In the wake of this move, officials said the number of analytic reports produced by DHS about domestic terrorism, including the threat from white supremacists, has dropped significantly. People in and close to the department said this has generated significant concern at headquarters.

“It’s especially problematic given the growth in right-wing extremism and domestic terrorism we are seeing in the U.S. and abroad,” one former intelligence official told The Daily Beast. The group in question was a branch of analysts in DHS’s Office of Intelligence and Analysis (I&A). They focused on the threat from homegrown violent extremists and domestic terrorists. The analysts there shared information with state and local law enforcement to help them protect their communities from these threats.

This is incredible to see. It is remarkable how Trump continually claims that he does not support white nationalism, yet he always seems to find it much easier to condemn Islamic terrorists than domestic ones.
