Trump’s Top Officials Turn Their Backs On Him In Display Of Mutiny On Foreign Policy

Disagreeing with people in politics is normal. There are always a huge amount of different potential perspectives on any given debate, and there are always going to be a range of views. This applies to everyone, and there is nothing wrong with it. However, President Donald Trump takes everything to extreme and ridiculous lengths, so he manages to completely misuse political discourse on a consistent basis. He has managed to make our national debate both harmfully divisive and stale and nonsensical at the same time, and it shows.

The latest humiliating example of this came when his own frequent grandiose claims about the supposedly heroic achievements of his presidency and administration in the area of foreign policy were shown up to be total nonsense in the harshest possible way. We have all heard the hysterical claims that have been emerging from the White House in recent months, whether it’s that the threat from North Korea has been completely neautralised, or that ISIS is now basically defeated in Syria and Iraq, or that Russia definitely did not meddle in the 2016 US Presidential election in any way whatsoever. Trump makes these claims constantly and with astounding confidence, but a whole load of his foreign policy officials just got together to prove him wrong, in public.

That’s right. Some of Trump’s top foreign policy officials are now teaming up to denounce his policies in public and explain that things are much, much worse than the President is willing to admit. Director of National Intelligence Dan Coats has assembled a team that recently published a document outlining in detail the areas were President Trump has royally screwed over the interests  of the American people on the world stage, and presented it to the Senate Intelligence Committee, with the support of the CIA, the FBI, the NSA, and several other federal agencies. According to the damning report, Trump has repeatedly misled the American people about our achievements oversees, with the following highlighted as the areas of most dishonesty:

  • ISIS still has “thousands” of fighters in Syria (and Iraq).
  • North Korea is “unlikely to give up all of its [nuclear] stockpiles, delivery systems, and production capabilities.”
  • Russia will meddle in the 2020 elections via social media “to focus on aggravating social and racial tensions, undermining trust in authorities, and criticizing perceived anti-Russia politicians.”
  • The US will have to contend with the security challenges posed by “the negative effects of environmental degradation and climate change” around the world.
  • “Iran is not currently undertaking the key nuclear weapons-development activities we judge necessary to produce a nuclear device” — in other words, Iran is still abiding by the terms of the nuclear deal that Trump pulled out of — and its “continued implementation” of the deal “has extended the amount of time Iran would need to produce enough fissile material for a nuclear weapon from a few months to about one year.”
  • What’s more, the report warns that “Iranian officials have publicly threatened” to “resume nuclear activities that the [nuclear deal] limits — if Iran does not gain the tangible trade and investment benefits it expected from the deal.” (Though, again, it notes that Iran isn’t “currently undertaking the key nuclear weapons-development activity.”

It is quite remarkable that, even in the face of this, that man is still our President.
