Unearthed Interview From Ten Years Ago Reveals Trump’s View On The Constitution: “Not All Men Are Created Equal”

We have learned a huge amount about President Donald Trump over the last three years or so. Ever since he announced his campaign for the presidency, he has been on our TV screens constantly, every day peddling some new brand of Republican bigotry. Especially in the two and a bit years that he has been President of the United States, Trump has amazed us all with his staggering lack of respect for anyone different than himself. Women, transgender people, Mexicans, African-Americans, disabled people, poor people, journalists. You name it. It seemed, for a while, like Trump could not possibly stoop any lower.

However, as is true to his character, new reports have revealed that Trump is somehow even more abhorrent than we previously thought possible. As it turns out, Donald Trump does not actually believe in the integrity of the American Constitution or the cornerstone of our democracy at all. It does not get any worse than that. An interview he conducted with the New York Times back in 2009 (before he suddenly decided he would like to be a politician, totally out of the blue and with zero experience) has recently been unearthed, and some of the things Trump said during that interview are pretty shocking.

Perhaps worst of all is what he had to say about the Declaration of Independence. The Constitution says that “all men are created equal” which is a pretty important and fundamental principle, assuming you’re not a Nazi. Trump, though, takes issue with it, which is incredible. Here’s what he had to say:

TRUMP: It’s not true. Some people are born very smart, some people are born not so smart. Some people are born very beautiful and some people are not so you can’t say that’re all created equal.

INTERVIEWER: They’re entitled to equal treatment under the law. I think that’s what the statement means. It doesn’t mean everybody has the same endowments.

TRUMP: That’s correct. The phrase is used often so much and it’s a very confusing phrase to a lot of people.

Unbelievably, and tragically, this is true. The equality of all people is absolutely vital to modern democracy, and anyone who does not believe in it is always going oppose measures to improve basic equality, which explains a huge amount of Trump’s policy decisions during his time in office so far. It could not be any clearer that this man is totally unfit to hold public office.
