Former House Republican Crosses Party Lines And Says We’re Better Off With Democrats As The Majority

Former Republican House Representative David Jolly (R-FL) told MSNBC’s Lawrence O’Donnell in a interview that he believes “we might be better off” if the Democrats win back majority in next year’s midterm election race, suggesting that keeping him in check might become a national security matter.

David Jolly was a member of the House of Representatives, representing the 13th District of Florida from 2014 to 2017. During his tenure he fought for stricter board protection, overturning regulations on jobs and the economy and repealing the individual mandate in the Affordable Care Act. However, after losing his seat, he realized that Obamacare offers him protection he would not have otherwise.

“In 2017, as an unemployed person with a preexisting condition, I knew Obamacare was there as a safety net if my wife and I needed it,” said Jolly earlier this summer.

If the Democrats win the majority, they will at least be able to keep him in check, something the GOP is presently unable to accomplish. Jolly said the President created this storm himself due to his lack of policy understanding.

It sounds as though this Republican is changing his tune. If he and others in Congress see that Trump needs to be controlled, and the only way to do that is by the Democrats winning majority in 2018, then the next step is to make sure the American people understand that they are the ones in control. We need to understand that government serves the people. We vote for our representatives to have our best interests at heart. If major Republican players are saying that we, the people, may need to give majority to the Democrats to quell the craziness coming from the Oval Office, maybe we should be listening. This, after all, would be an act in our, the people’s, best interests, not theirs.
