Trump’s Press Conference With The Indian Prime Minister Shows What An Embarrassment He Truly Is

Prior to Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s visit, a senior White House official briefing reporters made it a point to note that “the two men (Trump and Modi) have more social media followers than any world leaders on earth,” making sure to point out that Trump is slightly ahead of Modi. So much face, so little palm.

But that wasn’t enough. Trump had to reiterate this fact live in his joint press conference with the Indian Prime Minister. Trump said, “I am proud to announce to the media, to the American people, and to the Indian people, that Prime Minister Modi and I… are world leaders in social media.” There is a pregnant pause in which it seems President Trump might have been waiting for applause or, failing that, some kind of confirmation that Modi gives an equal amount of fucks about his social media following. Trump did not receive either but continued, “We’re believers. Giving the citizens of our countries the opportunities to hear directly from their elected officials… and for us to hear directly from them. I guess it’s worked very well in both cases.”

In both cases? Really? Because one of these men enjoyed between 70-80% job approval ratings over the last 12 months and… the other man is Donald Trump.

Prime Minister Modi and former President Obama enjoyed a great rapport, but can Modi forge such a bond with a president who’s more concerned about twitter followers than, say, climate change. Shortly after Trump announced his decision to withdraw from the Paris Accord, Modi reaffirmed India’s commitment and added that his country would go “above and beyond” the 2015 deal with respect to combating climate change.

Prime Minister Modi, we’re sorry our president is such a petulant little dipshit. Also, almost half of his twitter followers are fake and a solid percentage are just following him so we witness his fuckery in real-time.
